Dr. Cathy Wendland-Colby
Getting Families Well
Starting with Educated Pregnancy
There was a time when conventional wisdom told women not to exercise or exert themselves during pregnancy in the belief it would be harmful to their unborn babies. Chiropractors have certainly never subscribed to that sort of convention, understanding that the power that made the body can certainly hold up to the demands of staying fit as well as the demands of reproduction – that the two are not mutually exclusive.
TCL is pleased to honor Dr. Wendland-Colby for her foresight in documenting her own fitness, diet, and wellbeing regimens while pregnant. Her contributions, both live and in person, in the form of videos demonstrating how women can exercise their full power – from pregnancy, to natural childbirth, to successful breastfeeding – were an innovation that have reached millions of people around the world. Few chiropractors have done more to promote their profession as a perfect pathway mothers can take to achieving a healthy Educated Pregnancy and family wellness.
TCL: For which professional achievements will you most want to be acknowledged?
Wendland-Colby: Teaching students both in the classroom and their clinical intern/PEAK experience, mentoring docs and empowering women to make their voices heard throughout our profession. I’d like to be remembered for my contributions to the international birth community and for promoting the importance of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy. I’m also a passionate advocate for raising un-medicated children and bring a message of personal choice and responsibility to the diverse audiences to which I am fortunate enough to speak.
TCL: What projects are you working on now (or have worked on recently) that you are most excited about and would like more people to know about?
Wendland-Colby: Educating chiropractors and their teams about the role chiropractic plays in fertility, conception, pregnancy, birth and parenthood because “Healthy Moms = Healthy Babies.” It was a thrill to be part of the first LIFE Roma seminar, speaking to hundreds of European chiropractors about family practice and effective ways to teach the chiropractic lifestyle to families desiring natural approaches to birth and parenting. As part of the Life Vision planning board, it’s exciting to bring together some of the most relevant and inspiring leaders in our profession to impact our audience.
TCL: What else would you like for TCL readers to know?
Wendland-Colby: I currently serve on the boards of the Georgia Council of Chiropractic and the League of Chiropractic Women. I’ve been active in the LIFEforce 1000 since its inception because I resonate with the mission that “We will not stop until every man, woman and child on the planet has access to Chiropractic care or a Chiropractic education.” To further this mission, I’d like to invite the readers to begin asking one simple question to their patients…”Have you ever thought of becoming a Chiropractor?”
