WHO You Gonna Call?
The USA pays little attention to much of what goes on at the World Health Organization (WHO), but in the rest of the world it is the most respected authority on issues of global health. We don’t like to be confronted with news reports that our maternal and infant mortality stats are “a national embarrassment” and show us last among 27 comparably wealthy countries. Or to read in a Georgia Department of Public Health report that, “in 2010, Amnesty International released a report entitled ‘Deadly Delivery: The Maternal Health Care Crisis In The USA’, which listed Georgia as the state with the highest maternal mortality rate in the nation.” These reports tend to insult our false sense of health care superiority fostered by an arrogant drug industry.
Our profession has an opportunity to participate on this world platform, and organizations like the WFC do so. Life U has joined an NGO and has an office in Geneva where we can more fully engage in global health dialogue and solutions involving Chiropractic. We will use this influence in September of this year and work with The Rubicon Group of colleges to host four groundbreaking conference sessions with leaders at WHO and people who have a global influence.
