Evolving TIC in Germany

The Chiropraktik Akademie, the first non-founding institution to be admitted to membership (March 2016) of The Rubicon Group, reached an important milestone on July 15, 2016 with the awarding of its first Master’s of Science in Chiropractic degrees to the members of its pioneer graduating class. The elegant commencement ceremonies were hosted in Dresden at the Weingut Schloss Proschwitz by the Chiropraktik Akademie program director Jann-Oliver Broschinski. Dignitaries from the Chiropraktik Akademie, Dresden International University and Life University participated in the ceremonies with commencement remarks offered by Marc Hudson, D.C. of Malaga, Spain and Life University Board of Trustees member; and the commencement address was delivered by Guy F. Riekeman, D.C., President, Life University.

The award of degrees became all the more meaningful earlier in the year with the recognition of the degree program by the German education authority, the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZEvA) of Hannover, Germany.

Germany has a long history of different disciplines providing manual care of the spine similar to that offered by the chiropractic profession. Manipulation is a patient care approach provided by many medical practitioners as well as by the uniquely-German providers known as “heilpraktikers.” The presence of these providers offering care akin to that offered by the chiropractic community has been a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that manual care is somewhat commonplace and a curse in that there are thousands of persons trained at varying levels offering manual spinal care. The chiropractor in Germany continues to represent the highest level of skill and competence in the area of spinal adjusting.

The first award of Master’s of Science in Chiropractic is an important step forward in the evolution of the chiropractic profession in Germany. Germany, one of the powerhouses of global development, with less than 150 chiropractors and a population of more than 80 million people, needs the development of programs such as the Chiropraktik Akademie to create the infrastructure and practitioner community required to serve the nation.
